Safety

  • Always wear a helmet and protective clothing.
  • Wear bright or reflective clothing so you are more visable to other road users.
  • Signal early before you make a turn or lane change.
  • Most crashes between cars and motorcycles involve turning left. If you are preparing to cross traffic or turn left, take a second look to make sure it is safe to proceed.
  • Don't ride in another motorist's blind spot.
  • Never leave your bike, scooter, moped unattended with the engine running.
  • Reduce your speed when riding over bumpy roads.
  • Be especially conscious of traffic from behind.
  • Keep both hands on the handlebars and both feet on the floorboards or footpegs while riding.
  • Always test the brakes before any journey and the headlights before a night journey.
  • Regularly check tyres, brakes, battery, lights, oil and chain to keep your bike in top condition.
  • Consider going on a BikeSafe assessment or Advanced Rider training course to hone your skills.
